COLORADO EARTH FRIENDS
What can I do about the "man-made global warming" hysteria? ...before the politicians rush into something?
Another ignorant rant by a politician. Note it was written 16 years ago. NONE of that stuff has happened. Think the politicians have gotten any better informed?
Some say President Bush acted too quickly, on the basis of bad information, to invade Iraq. Ironically, many of the same people now say we must act IMMEDIATELY to stop emission of CO2 - which may cause global warming - which may be more than 2 F - which may be a crisis - which may be acting too quickly, on the basis of bad information.
Unfortunately, our knowledge of "global warming" is no better than our knowledge of Saddam's WMD. Let's not make war on carbon dioxide until we know more about "global warming" than we did about WMD. You can read my reasons for skepticism about anthropogenic global warming on the HOME page .
We're NOT talking about reducing our dependence on foreign oil and natural gas. If you drive a fuel-efficient car, or use energy-efficient light bulbs, good for you.
But 86% of US electrical energy comes from fossil fuels. It's impossible to replace all that energy with windmills. In addition, Colorado is growing. We will need 30% MORE energy by 2025.
There are many credible scientists - Reid Bryson, Roger Pielke, Richard Lindzen, the Russian Academy of Science - who believe carbon dioxide is not responsible for the small warming (1 degree F) that has taken place. There are good scientists on the other side too - but their conclusions are filtered by politicians in the IPCC and, (Lord help us) The Media.
Your own experience, from school, reminds you that a thousand years ago the Norsemen sailed to America, and settled Greenland. Climate has changed from warmer (the Norse settlements) to colder (the Little Ice Age) naturally. You understand the "Greenhouse Effect" if you've spent a Summer evening in Nebraska (or the Midwwest). That "greenhouse" is due to water vapor. CO2 is negligible in comparison.
Science Climate - more than 30 years worth - changed long before the Industrial Age. Climate changed to a cooling trend - 1940 to 1977 - during the Industrial Age, when carbon dioxide was increasing. Climate science is uncertain enough that we should not rush into destroying our economy and way of life without very good reason to be sure it's worth it.
Write, phone, or email as many of YOUR politicians as possible. Tell them you don't believe there's a global warming crisis, you don't believe Kyoto would do any good, that Kyoto would only harm our country.
"How do you know when politicians are lying? Their lips are moving."
Let me take a minute to recap everything on this website:
